Can we agree that Indianapolis is hardly the most desirable February travel destination for the motorcycle community? No offense to “Nap-town,” which is a perfectly nice city. No, it’s just, well, it’s February for pete’s sake. So why was Indy’s Indiana Convention Center be swarming with motorcyclists last weekend?
In recent years the place to be in February has been the Powersports Dealer Expo hosted by industry trade publication Dealernews.com. Dealer Expo is primarily business to business show, manufacturers selling to dealers. What can you find at Dealer Expo? How about everything from new helmets, to carbon fiber bits, to electronics, to business systems, to cleaners, to dynos! If it’s something that belongs in a motorcycle dealership, either for sale or for use in the business, you’ll see it at Dealer Expo.
Hundreds of suppliers, thousands of attendees. Great. But there are bikes too! Race bikes, customs and (our favorites) old bikes. Martin Motorsports 3rd Annual “Modern Classics” show is next week and we REALLY wish we could have something as cool to show as as this 1973 Husqvarna 450 Desert Master owned, ridden, and autographed by Malcolm Smith (If you’ve ever seen On any Sunday then you know.)
People watching is a treat too. There are folks walking around whose names might command your attention. Like former World Superbike Champion and five time Daytona 200 winner Scott Russell, or 7 time AMA Grand National Flat Track champion Chris Carr. They’re busy checking out the same new product offerings as the rest of us.
Suffice to say, if you are in the motorcycle business or like a bike enthusiast, then this B 2 B Trade show is something you might want to wrangle your way in to next time. Dealer Expo is in the process of changing up the show and moving to an autumn date so stay tuned for the next show in September, 2014.
